Awards for all grantRead all about our recent grant here. Spring 2008 - ConstitutionAn Extraordinary General Meeting (EGM) was held on Tuesday November 6th 2007 at 7:45 at Pangbourne Village Hall. The main topic of business was the vote on the proposed new constitution so, after proposal and seconding, the meeting was thrown open to the members to discuss any issues. The vote on acceptance of the new constitution was taken and the motion was carried by 49 votes in favour of the new constitution to 2 against, with 1 abstention. A link to the new constitution can be found below. Autumn 2007 - Changes to the constitutionThis autumn the committee has been busy revising and updating our constitution. This was precipitated when we investigated the possibility of getting Herritage Lottery Fund (HLF) money for a new digital projector and associated equipment. Nearly all of our speakers last winter asked for a digital-projector to be made available and Tony Rayner spent a lot of time borrowing the necessary equipment so we feel that the society needs to move with the times and get out own so that we can continue to attract the best speakers. We were advised that the constitution needs to be brought up to date but the basic principles and aims are all to remain unchanged. Once we have approved the changed constitution we will be considered as a 'charity' (with a small 'c') and this will mean we will get preferential treatment if we want to apply for any grants. We must point out that our society will not be a full-blown 'Registered Charity' and we will not have any additional accounting and legal obligations. An extraordinary general meeting (EGM) has been called for Tuesday, November 6th 2007 and your committee hopes that you can come along to the EGM and give us you support in this matter. You can view the current constitution here and the proposed version here. |
